Drug Crisis:  A Dose of Reality for Employers
Addressing a crisis of this scope and magnitude requires everyone who has a stake to be part of the solution, including the business community. 

Drug addiction is a growing concern in the United States.  In 2016, an estimated 48.5 million persons in the US, reported the use of illicit drugs or misuse of prescription drugs in the past year. This estimate includes the use of heroin, methamphetamines, and prescription drugs.  The CDC estimates the total economic burden of drug abuse in the US is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of health care, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.
 
Our program will be focused on concerns that business owners may have including: What are the cost of workplace absence, employee retention, and workplace safety? What are some indicators that employers and HR professionals need to pay attention to related potential opioid abuse in the workplace? What can employers do to implement an abuse prevention program?
