Start by Believing: A Panel Discussion on Community Responses to Sexual Assault

LWV St. Paul and LWV Dakota County will co-host a moderated panel discussion regarding how to improve community responses to sexual assault on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the St. Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN) television studio. Tickets are free but required due to space limitations. The panel discussion will be preceded by a reception with light refreshments from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. The panel discussion will be moderated by Mary Rice, President of LWV Bloomington. The panelists include Jennifer Bjorhus, one of the lead journalists working on the Star Tribune's Denied Justice series, Nicole Matthews, Executive Director of the Minnesota Indian Woman’s Sexual Assault Coalition, John Choi, Ramsey County Attorney, and Paul Schnell, Inver Grove Heights Police Chief and future appointee as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Both Ms. Matthews and Chief Schnell sat on the sexual assault task force convened by Attorney General Lori Swanson which recently issued a report with a long list of recommendations for the state legislature, law enforcement, county attorneys, and the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board. Questions for the panelists will be accepted in writing at the event or in advance via email to lwvdakotacty@lwvmn.org. The panel discussion will be broadcast live by SPNN and will also be rebroadcast at later dates. The event is free but registration via Eventbrite is required due to space limitations.
