Please join us at Good Day Dakota County to hear from two of Dakota County's top educators. Jane Bernez and Tim Wynes as they reflect on their years of service and the direction of our education system now and into the future. 

We are celebrating all their accomplishments as they move on to their next adventure later this summer. Jane will be retiring and Tim will become the president of the Black Hawk College in Illinois. 

Jane Berenz Superintendent Independent School District 196

During the past three decades, Jane has held several positions in the district, including teacher, elementary principal, district director, and for the last nine years, superintendent. For Jane, the most important part of being a leader is breaking down the walls of a hierarchy and recognizing the importance of being a good teammate. “Working with others means serving with others, and the only way I am successful is if those around me are successful,” she says. “And that includes all of the students in our district.”

Tim also served as a college president in Iowa for eight years, but this is not what he planned for a career. Tim went to law school with the sole and singular purpose of being a criminal trial lawyer. He wanted to do that in the worst way and the worst way to do that in the 1980s was to become a public defender.  For three years, Tim was part of a small and slightly delusional team of defense lawyers in southwest Missouri where he handled jury trials and appeals that ranged from stolen saddles and cattle to death penalty cases.   He eventually flipped to the prosecution side of criminal law and represented women and children who were victims of crime.  Tim became one of the experts on the legal issues surrounding domestic and family violence. That work took him to a faculty position at the University Of Missouri School Of Law.

LOCAL LEGISLATORS TO APPEAR ON CAPITOL COMMENTARY

SOUTH ST. PAUL, MN - Capitol Commentary, a show featuring local District 52 and District 54 state Legislators, will be LIVE from South St. Paul City Hall, on Town Square Television Channel 19 (Comcast Xfinity 19 and CenturyLink Prism 8419/8919HD), online at www.townsquare.tv, and Facebook Live, on Tuesday, June 12, at 7:30 PM. Invited guests include Representative Rick Hansen, Representative Regina Barr, Representative Keith Franke, Senator Matt Klein, and Senator Karla Bigham. Legislators will be speaking about the 2018 Legislative Session. Adam Carter, from WCCO Radio, will host the program. The public is invited to attend the event at South St. Paul City Hall (125 3rd Avenue North, South St. Paul), to ask questions of the Legislators, and viewers will also have the opportunity to e-mail questions to questions@townsquare.tv through June 10. Capitol Commentary is produced jointly by Town Square Television and NDC4.

NDC4 is a joint powers cooperative formed by its seven member cities to administer and enforce the cable television franchise ordinance for each of the seven cities. NDC4 is the local franchise authority representing cable subscribers’ consumer interests, and also oversees seven local community access channels on the Comcast cable system. Town Square Television is a non-profit organization producing local television programs and providing access to video production equipment, studios, training, and cable television channel time for community members who wish to televise their own programs. Kids 'n Kinship is a local non-profit organization making successful mentoring matches for over 45 years in Dakota County. Individual, couple, and family mentors are needed to provide friendship to youth ages 5-16 in need of a positive role model. Caring, encouraging role models are needed. As a volunteer mentor you would get together with your mentee for an hour or two each week doing low cost or now cost actiities like biking, playing catch, board games, drawing or arts and crafts, going to the park, eating dinner together, or visiting the library. Mentoring is fun and rewarding and can make a huge impact!
